<\/span>Nicola explains how the project came about:<\/span><\/p>\n

I asked for volunteers to produce some quirky illustrations and graphic designs for products to advertise the FTFE expedition.\u00a0 Alongside meeting the demands of their course, these talented guys felt the idea of the trip was so crazy and moving that they wanted to have a go.\u00a0 A lot of people have been, or will be affected by cancer at some point in their lives and this, for all of us involved was a key issue. The team worked to a loose brief and wanted to get across the personal nature of the trip, so incorporated lots of hand drawn imagery into the designs.\u00a0 The aim was to produce designs which would be flexible enough to apply to a variety of products and wide ranging in style and imagery, to appeal to a broad consumer base.\u00a0 Encouraging people to follow the progress of the fire engine, around the world, was also important, and incorporating elements from the different places will hopefully remind people of the enormity of the task the crew face.<\/span><\/p>\n

The design team was made up of staff and students from the National Diploma in Art and Design course, at The Arts University College Bournemouth.\u00a0 The students are predominately in their first year of a two year course, which will take them on to university.\u00a0 James Smith, is the only exception, having just completed the second year with a distinction grade.\u00a0 James used the brief as the basis for his final major project and produced an enormous amount of graphic design work for products and promotional material.\u00a0 He has worked fanatically and has enjoyed every minute, which has given him the opportunity to experience working with clients.\u00a0 He is progressing on to BA Hons Visual Communication at AUCB specializing in Graphic Design.<\/span><\/p>\n
