{"id":2697,"date":"2010-08-05T19:42:00","date_gmt":"2010-08-05T18:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.followthatfireengine.com\/news\/?p=2697"},"modified":"2017-07-22T14:33:35","modified_gmt":"2017-07-22T13:33:35","slug":"day-19-chelny-to-ufa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.followthatfireengine.com\/news\/expedition-updates\/day-19-chelny-to-ufa\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 19 \u2013 Chelny to Ufa."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>High point<\/em><\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 Today was exactly what the doctor ordered.\u00a0 After 18 days the agony was increasing exponentially.\u00a0 The constant view of gravestones and freshly crashed trucks by the side of the road, and near fatal accidents every 5 minutes was beginning to weigh heavy.\u00a0 Then today, out of nowhere, the roads stopped looking bombed, the skies cleared of smoke, and our fellow truck drivers almost started behaving themselves.\u00a0 Don\u2019t get me wrong, we still have 40 tonne trucks coming at us head on, it just doesn\u2019t happen\u00a0as often.\u00a0 Awesome views, sweeping roads and big chat. Now this is what we signed up for.\u00a0 Love it !!!!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Low point<\/em><\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 Waking up in a little bed thinking I was at home. \u201cThere\u2019s no place like home, there\u2019s no place like home\u201d.\u00a0 Was a happier boy when we hit the road and the challenge is put back in perspective.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>No point<\/em><\/span><\/strong>: We pulled over into a petrol station; realising we didn\u2019t need any, we drove on.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Russian word of<\/em><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>\u00a0the day<\/em><\/span><\/strong>: Tih takaya mee-laya<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Authors comments<\/em><\/span><\/strong>: Words can not express the experience so far.\u00a0 It is all very surreal.\u00a0 Everything is thrown at you.\u00a0 In many ways we have made life very difficult for\u00a0ourselves by driving a fire engine, but, and it is a very big but, the people we meet along the way more than make up for it.\u00a0 At every stop in Russia, if only for a moment, we are always greeted by some wonderful locals taking photos, jumping onboard, praying for us, or simply laughing at the adventure.\u00a0 No one speaks English, we speak minimial Russian, so these meetings are always entertaining.
