There\u2019s no such thing as a rest day on FTFE, we spent most of the day in an internet cafe sorting out PR, events, blogs, shipping and the usual things that need to happen to keep this bad boy on the road.\u00a0 Not that I’m complaining, this isn’t a holiday after all.\u00a0 We’re staying in Lorne, which is described as the most fashionable town on the Great Ocean Road, with\u00a0a beautiful beach and a laid back surfie vibe.\u00a0 However …. \u00a0I looked like I was in a ski resort with my FTFE Columbia jacket, gloves and a bobble hat.\u00a0 It was the coldest day on the expedition so far, we were supposed to be enjoying the Australian summer,\u00a0rain and cold\u00a0wasn\u2019t what we signed up for!\u00a0 To be fair it was probably only around 7 degrees.<\/p>\n
FTFE HQ for the day was\u00a0the wonderful Great Ocean Road Cottages, which they very kindly gave us half price when we told them about the expedition.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been overwhelmed by the reception we\u2019ve received in Australia and how people go out of their way to help us.\u00a0 A question we get asked a lot is \u2018\u2019are you firies?\u2019\u2019, fair enough, if 5 people rock up in a fire engine you\u2019d assume they were fire fighters right?\u00a0 \u2018\u2019Do you carry equipment?\u2019\u2019, \u2018\u2019So how many fires have you put out?\u2019\u2019, \u201cHave you got your uniforms with you?\u201d.\u00a0 Around the firies Paul’s tactic is to be on the front foot, asking as many questions as he can\u00a0about fire fighting, equipment and appliances\u00a0without anyone catching on to the fact he’s actually an accountant.\u00a0\u00a0Steve’s confesses straight away explaining that his dad was a fire fighter and the whole expedition was conceived\u00a0in his memory.\u00a0 Myself and Lou tell the same story and Fuad, well that depends on the audience…<\/p>\n
It’s a 6 o’clock\u00a0start tomorrow to get to Melbourne for\u00a0a fire engine convoy through the city.\u00a0 We’d best get our beauty sleep.<\/p>\n
