{"id":4186,"date":"2010-11-19T08:23:04","date_gmt":"2010-11-19T08:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.followthatfireengine.com\/news\/?p=4186"},"modified":"2017-07-22T14:33:31","modified_gmt":"2017-07-22T13:33:31","slug":"day-124-proper-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.followthatfireengine.com\/news\/expedition-updates\/day-124-proper-job\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 124 \u2013 Proper Job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>High point: Melbourne, simply amazing!<\/p>\n<p>Low Point: Not winning the raffle at the fundraiser organised by Voyage Express.<\/p>\n<p>Most people\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0realise how much of a battering a car\u00a0receives\u00a0whilst driving across rough terrain. \u00a0Even fewer realise how much worst it is for an old fire truck thats not quite\u00a0designed\u00a0for the the job. \u00a0The team has put in place a\u00a0strict\u00a0daily routine which is designed to spot any small issues which could latter turn into major problems. \u00a0This works great for most of the time but\u00a0inevitably\u00a0cracks will be missed&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>..<br \/>\n<object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/u24VusAeq2I?fs=1&amp;hl=en_GB\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/u24VusAeq2I?fs=1&amp;hl=en_GB\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>..<br \/>\n<!--more-->A very early start to the day meant we were all a bit groggy by the time we rolled into the outskirts of Melbourne. \u00a0We had a meeting\u00a0with George from the Melbourne Services Museum who was kind enough to give us an escort through the town in one of the museums 1940&#8217;s fire trucks!\u00a0We slowly made our way through the mid day traffic and finally got to the main Melbourne Fire Station. \u00a0The guys gave us the standard reception and before you know it, Steve was sniffing around for a mechanic. \u00a0What happened next was quite remarkable&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Within 15 minutes we were at the main MFB workshops, which is\u00a0Disney\u00a0land for fire trucks! \u00a0All we were expecting was for someone to have a look at our door, which was slightly wonky, but we got way more than that. \u00a0Within seconds mechanics from the workshop slowly started coming out and inspecting Martha. \u00a0None were instructed or asked to help out, they simply started putting down what they were doing and making their way over. \u00a0One came, then another, then another, and before you know it the crew of 20 wanted us to clear the cab so they can get to the enigne! \u00a0Nothing we could really do but to let them at it, so to speak. \u00a0While we were being given a guided tour of the facilities the mechanics plugged away, fixing problems we didn&#8217;t even know we had! \u00a0Fuel tank leak, fixed. \u00a0Battery holder, fixed. \u00a0Wonky door, fixed. \u00a0They even had a go at fixing one of our broken emergency lights but alas they didn&#8217;t have the parts. \u00a0We can&#8217;t thank them enough for their help. \u00a0It is with generosity like this that our trip keeps on trucking!<\/p>\n<p>I couldn&#8217;t possibly sign off without mentioning the amazing bbq on the roof top of Blue\u00a0Freight&#8217;s\u00a0office. \u00a0Richard Dexter (I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve heard this name before) organised a\u00a0sizzling\u00a0steak and some cold drinks for lunch. \u00a0Amazing stuff!
