0715hrs: Alarm rings I\u2019m awake.\u00a0 What is the safety record?\u00a0 Will I be able to deal with the relentless barracking if I fail?<\/p>\n
0900hr: White water rafting is cancelled due to high river levels – 120 cumecs per second.\u00a0 Will it be cancelled due to high water? No.\u00a0 How many people bottle it?\u00a0 Why am I doing this?<\/p>\n
1115hrs: Shotover Jet boating for the whole team instead of rafting.\u00a0 Loads of thrills through the amazing Shotover River canyon.\u00a0 Old people do it, why wouldn\u2019t I be able to?\u00a0 Will Kate think less of me if I don\u2019t do it?\u00a0 How high is it?<\/p>\n
1320hrs: Why is time going so quickly?\u00a0 Be my friend, relax. The beefy bus driver picks us up and some of my questions start to be answered and more unwanted and spiteful facts are told.\u00a0 One in 250 bottle it, 134m, 8 second free fall and yes the barracking will be relentless as it has already started.<\/p>\n
1403hrs:\u00a0 After a ropey little drive up a stone road, which is scary enough for me, I see it for the first time, a horrendous looking pod suspended 134m across what looks like a little stream.\u00a0 The Nevis bungy.\u00a0 The only means of getting there is a miniscule gondola which fits 5 people.\u00a0 It\u2019s pretty efficient from here on in \u2013 toilet \u2013 harness on \u2013 weigh in (I\u2019ve put on 2kgs) \u2013 gondola.<\/p>\n
1427hrs: BLIND FEAR.\u00a0 Steve is talking, but I don\u2019t hear anything, I\u2019m just looking at his big face as he rips into me.\u00a0 He is feeding off my misery.\u00a0 Again, it is all very serious and efficient \u2013 shackles on \u2013 in the chair \u2013 instructions \u2013 shuffle, shuffle, shuffle. Don\u2019t look down, don\u2019t look down.\u00a0 Look at the camera, look at the other camera.\u00a0 I feel limp like my bones are have melted.\u00a0 My heart is pumping fear.\u00a0 1\u2026.2\u2026.3\u2026.<\/p>\n
1429hrs: FUN.\u00a0 Rushing.\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s over and I can enjoy life once more.<\/p>\n
The heady mix of half a day of fear followed by an intense rush is epic and if you can push yourself to that point you will enjoy it\u2026\u2026afterwards.<\/p>\n
Steve also had a go, annoyingly making the whole thing look like he is jumping of the kerb.<\/p>\n
Later on that day we head to do some canyon swinging which Amy, Steve, Jamie, Kate A and\u00a0 I do.\u00a0 I now think I am the boy having already done a big jump and swagger on down the biggest canyon swing in the world.\u00a0 However, when I get there I experience the fear fun factory once more.\u00a0 The canyon swing is a different prospect to a bungy, it\u2019s still a terrifying jump and 60m free fall but you can do some different funky jumps and the two Scottish lads do an immense job scaring you before you jump.\u00a0 We all did different jumps, but I think the funniest are the Binladen (bundled off with a bin on your head) done by Steve and the Chair (off backwards sitting on a chair) done by Kate A \u2013 check out the video VERY FUNNY.<\/p>\n
So off for some food, bed and only one more jump to go tomorrow as we head out of town to keep Steve happy.<\/p>\n
