We stopped only to check out the colonies of elephant seals and for a quick game of cricket. The elephant seals were like nothing I’ve ever seen before; a cross between monsters and huge alien dogs. The seals are sexually dimorphic, that is the males are much larger than the females. Females grow to 9-12 feet and weigh between 900-1800 pounds. Males grow to 14-16 feet long and weigh in at 3000-5000 pounds, or more. Watching the females being chased by these massive creatures I did feel quite sorry for them!

After the stunning coastal roads of Route 1 getting on the highway was a bit of a shock, especially negotiating the LA traffic.
Finally reaching our destination 12 hours later FTFE friends Hogg and Brooke had kindly organised a welcome reception at their place. What was on the menu, burgers of course. As a weary crew munched our way through eight burgers, trying not to fall asleep in our dinner, we were all very excited at the prospect of meeting Mickey Mouse the next day. 6 o’clock wake up call, we’d best get some much needed shut eye!
Sweet dreams my L.A.X.

Amy

[flickr album=72157626075882132 num=30 size=Square]

High point: Stopping off on Route 1 to see hundreds of mammoth elephant seals chillaxing on the beach Low point: The temperature No point: Putting your foot down, take in the view Sleeping under the stars, being at one with nature, telling secrets around the fire; I’m quite a big fan of camping, or I […]

[3,34

post-4902","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-expedition-updates","category-stage-7-vancouver-to-phoenix
["GET
