Day 106 : Roasting Hot Perth

1 November 2010

HIGH POINT: Steve and Amy being reunited after nearly 4 months apart and a slap up Roast at Perth Fire Station

LOW POINT: Getting us lost in Central Perth

NO POINT: Mistaking a cardboard box for a seat and promptly falling through it. Obviously jet-lag

After 4 months on the road, Steve and Amy’s reunion was long overdue. In a scene reminiscent of the film ‘Love Actually’ they were clearly thrilled to be back together again…….Amy and I had just arrived into Perth, it was 2 in the morning and the crew (currently Steve and Barham) had made up signs to welcome us. Jetlagged we headed to our digs for the night.

That morning we woke up to a hot and sunny 32c day.

Evening arrived and we headed to Perth Central Fire Station. Not sure of what we had planned for the meeting, we were surprised to find a delicious Sunday roast waiting for us. The Firemen (all 12 of them) had cooked up a feast and we were well and truly looked after. Nothing like the sight of 12 firemen in pinnies to bring a smile to your face 😉

The conversation over dinner was varied, as they gave us advice on heading through the Australian Outback, we spoke about Rolf Harris (as you would), AFL and they took us through their shifts and how the Australian fire department works. Then there was what sounded like a shopping centre annoucement and all 4 fire engines, along with crew, raced off to a call on a fire in a block of flats. After waving them off we made out way back into the centre of town, reflecting on how nice the fire fighters were.

There are evening ended but there was just enough time for me to get us lost, coming out of Central Perth! Jet-lag again of course 😉
