Day 125 : We just died on the stage tonight!

20 November 2010

HIGH POINT: Getting to spend the day with some key FTFE friends

LOW POINT: Someone attempting to mug me in North Melbourne 🙁 not happy

NO POINT: Trying to sing The Chain by Fleetwood Mac

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Just get off…you’re dying!” As shouted by friends as we belted out yet another karaoke song

The whole idea of Team Karaoke seemed like a good one as we rocked up at our Charity Event in Melbourne on Saturday night. Richard Dexter had put on a lovely night at the Terminus Hotel earlier in the evening and with us managing to raise yet more cash for FTFE through a raffle, moral was running high in the crew.

By the time we arrived at the second stop for the night, a Bar called Barry, we were ready to continue the good night and bust out some tunes on the Barryoake. I mean what better way to get a crowd of Aussies behind you than a bit of a sing song?  And with such fine voices, we were sure to be a hit…surely! However a minute into our first song, we looked round at each other and realised maybe this wasn’t the best idea after all. Were we imagining it or were people actually leaving? Determined or simply unable to admit defeat we carried on. Maybe they just didn’t know the song…that would be it. I mean a lot of people don’t know Queen songs do they? Or were they simply stunned by our vocal ability and were going to give us a massive round of applause at the end.  No, in fact we were greeted with an awkward silence and were rushed off stage before anyone could remember what had just happened.

Least it was over with. But what’s this…the whole of the Follow that Fire Engine crew were singing the Chain next. Ah yes please! More Karaoke. Yehhh!!!

Karaoke aside, we were sad to be leaving Melbourne.
