Day 214 : Its Showtime !

16 February 2011

High Point: The Bellagio hotel switching on their musical water fountains especially for us. Is there anything that we can’t get done with FTFE?

Low Point: “I asked for two cheese burgers but you gave me two hamburgers. Why did you do that? Where’s my cheese? Ok did you honestly just put cheese on these burgers and give them back to me?Yeah but now they’re cold. All I want is my cheese. I’m not being awkward I just want what I paid for. No, I want you to make me fresh ones not just heat them up again. Thank you. Good night.”

No Point: Playing Black Jack when the table has turned. Take your winnings (or in my case lack of winnings) and get outta there. Quick.

After a late night chancing our collective hands at Black Jack and Craps (when in Rome and all that eh?)  we headed out into the Nevada sun to meet the downtown Las Vegas fire crew for our lunchtime meet and greet. Kindly organised by Tim Shalhoob (MGM Resorts International) and Cari Underwood (Las Vegas Police Dept) our early afternoon rendezvous followed pretty much the same template as all of our previous meet and greets. Amazing welcome? Check. Incredibly friendly firefighters? Check. Bent over backwards to help us get the best photos ever? Check.

With the traffic stopped and the hotel security guards (with obligatory dark glasses) eyeing Martha with a mixture of intrigue and confusion, we stood proudly outside the Bellagio, side by side with the Vegas fire crew. Legends every one of them. Within the time it takes to whisper “no way, I don’t believe you, there’s no way they’ll do that for us”, the Bellagio water fountains, sprung majestically to life to frame one of the most iconic fire crew shots we have ever done. Did that really just happen? Another Mickey Mouse VIP moment for sure.

As we have mentioned individually and collectively in these blogs, the hospitality experienced in the US has been nothing short of incredible and fortunately for us it was to continue for the remainder of our brief stay in Sin City. Not only did Tim Shalhoob, our Vegas accommodation fixer, shout us lunch at the mere mention of having not eaten, he secured us tickets to see mind-blowing magicians Penn & Teller perform their latest show. You cant come to Vegas and not see a show right? Thank you again MGM Resorts.

What you also can’t leave Vegas without doing is visiting a wedding chapel, so sandwiched between lunch and the magic show, we managed to find time for a trial Moore and Harpin wedding. The motto for the Chapel of the Flowers, our selected marital venue on Las Vegas Boulevard, was “elegant, intimate and legendary”. Whilst I’m not entirely sure our pre-wedding wedding practice will go down as legendary, our stay in this crazy city certainly was. Wow.
