FTFE Expedition: Going Green

25 June 2010

Dear Supporters,

In order for our expedition to fully succeed we must ensure that it is causes the absolute minimum damage as possible to our planet.

This is in terms of:

1. CO2 emissions for fuel, shipping and flights for the entire crew.

2. Damage to the local environments in terms of road damage, rubbish and pollution.

3. Utilising green technologies, solar panels, solar showers.

Michelle Mahoney and team have calculated that the total CO2 emissions on the expedition will equate to 58 tonnes of Carbon. We have sought advice on this and we, as a crew, will pay for trees to be planted to offset our emissions. This equates to approx £35 per person and we will make this donation shortly.

However, before we commit can anyone offer us any further advice or help with this, or indeed all the points listed above which are very important to us.

We are desperate to do the right thing, and have done a great deal of research to minimise our “footprint” but we recognise there must be areas we’ve overlooked due to not having the expertise.

If you can help, please do contact me on the email on mobile number below, and I would be delighted to hear from you.

In addition if anyone has any contacts in the solar power industry or products please let us know. In particular we are desperately after a universal solar powered charger.
